Black HIV Awareness Day: Call for Community Projects

Black HIV Awareness DayThis is an important opportunity to promote your community project for Black HIV Awareness Day.

Why is promoting HIV awareness important among black communities in Maryland. The statistics about who is becoming infected with HIV annually speak for themselves:

  • 34.1% — Black males who have sex with males (MSM) accounted for the greatest proportion of new HIV diagnoses in Maryland in 2011
  • 16.6% — Of all new infections occurred among black heterosexual females
  • 13.2% —  Of all new infections occurred among black heterosexual males
  • Thats 63.9% of all new infections in 2011 in Maryland
