Why is promoting HIV awareness important among black communities in Maryland. The statistics about who is becoming infected with HIV annually speak for themselves:
- 34.1% — Black males who have sex with males (MSM) accounted for the greatest proportion of new HIV diagnoses in Maryland in 2011
- 16.6% — Of all new infections occurred among black heterosexual females
- 13.2% — Of all new infections occurred among black heterosexual males
- Thats 63.9% of all new infections in 2011 in Maryland
